This morning Shirley Thompson set off


This morning Shirley Thompson set off from Puerta de Mogan, Gran Canaria on a 3000 mile solo unsupported crossing of the Atlantic Ocean to the French island of St Bart’s in the Caribbean. This amazing lady is certainly no stranger to extreme and endurance sports as she is an experienced participant of jungle and other marathons! Shirley is going for two records in her row across the ‘Trade Winds’ Atlantic route – firstly to become the oldest woman at 60 years of age to undertake the Atlantic crossing solo and secondly to be the first Irish woman to row any ocean solo. Determined and stalwart Shirley will make this crossing in her Pure Class boat ‘Amigo’ which is 1.8 meters wide and around 7m long her journey and could take her as long as 90 days.  Follow Shirley’s crossing  on Facebook or her Website  Support her charities   Shirley’s target is 90K and it will be equally divided between French Riviera Animals   Mimosa Matters and WWF
