Atlantic Campaigns Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge is now under two weeks to go – here is some background.

Since 2015, this race is now held annually starting each December.  Atlantic Campaigns SL, managed by Carsten Heron Olsen who bought the rights to the Atlantic Rowing Race in May 2012, and it is now called The “Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge” – The World’s Toughest Row.  This is an extreme race which requires enormous courage and endless enduring strength of both mind and body from all of these rowing competitors who face a rigorous routine and many changing conditions of the ocean. The route across the Atlantic Ocean is from La Gomera. Canary Isles to Antigua, West Indies, a distance of approximately 2,550 nautical miles(2,930 statute miles or 4,700 km).

Sir Chay Blyth founded the race in 1997 with subsequent races roughly every two years until 2015.  The early races were run by Challenge Business Ltd.  In 2003 Woodvale Events Ltd bought the race which was managed by Simon Chalk until 2012 when the rights to the race was bought by Carsten Heron Olsen.
